A great afternoon was had recently here at Bellurgan Precision Engineering when we had a visit from one of our OEM partners #medtronic. The pandemic in 2020 presented challenges at all levels across the globe including critical care appliance providers and their dedicated suppliers. We continue to work with a range of global cross functional teams within that organization to support their mission to accelerate access to healthcare technology.

Appointment Of General Manager: February 2021

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Kelly as our new General Manager. With over 20 years’ experience in the field of Manufacturing Engineering Paul has a proven track record of delivering operational excellence across several industries, including Medical Technology, Aerospace, Electrical and Automotive.

Paul joined Bellurgan as Production Manager in 2013 and was appointed to the senior leadership role of Head of Operations in October 2017, during this time Paul has consistently demonstrated outstanding technical expertise, focused leadership and strong strategic planning.

Paul’s years of excellence, hard work and passion for the job have proven him to be the best candidate for this role.

We are proud of our employees’ strong technical knowledge and progressive experience in the industry and are very confident that under Paul’s leadership, they will continue to deliver great quality, support and innovation to our valued customers.

Working closely with them to make decisions quickly to allow for better patient outcomes during a time when a lot of challenges unique to 2020 and the Covid19 Pandemic presented themselves. Thank you, Medtronic, for trusting our amazing team here at Bellurgan Precision Engineering to rise to the challenge.

In a year that has transformed Medtech, it is particularly interesting to see how partnerships in the sector have evolved, as companies deal with the shift to virtual/remote working while bearing the extra load of responding to the Covid19 pandemic.

Brother Speedio M140x2:

As part of Bellurgan’s continuous improvement program and investments for existing and future Customer requirements, we decided to invest in the Brother M140x2 with a Feedio robotic handling system. This mill-turn machine has a powerful 16,000rpm, face-and-taper contact spindle and a 22-tool magazine plus a turning table with a 55Nm direct-drive motor powering a 2,000rpm turning table


ATL 320 Thermal Deburring Machine:

At Bellurgan we are committed to relentlessly reviewing all processes that guarantee a top quality product and on time delivery to our Customers. We invested in a Thermal deburring machine that can perform universal deburring of all external and internal burrs in one operation with a reliable process. This process does not affect the surface structure. There is unmatched cleanliness and fast cycle times with this method. We have the capability and confidence in deburring large quantities with low energy costs.

Matsuura MAM72-35VN:

Bellurgan selected this Matsuura MAM72-35VN to serve long batch runs for Milling operations. It delivers long periods of unmanned,high precision productivity and also provides Bellurgan versatility in the machining of very small to very large components. This positions Bellurgan to react quickly to changing demands and satisfying Customer requirements. The MAM72 provides pallet and productivity solutions to keep this work center efficiently producing components around the clock.

Matsuura H.Plus 300 PC15:

The 15 pallet modular configuration of the H.Plus-300 is one of the reasons why Bellurgan selected the H.Plus 300 PC15. It also satisfies the requirement for unmanned overnight running which aligns with Bellurgan’s lights out precision engineering philosophy. It’s a small horizontal machining centre with a very large capability. Batched scheduled production for our Customer requirements is essential and the 15 pallet/240 tools option achieves this by eliminating the setup time.

Citizen M32 Sliding Head:

Bellurgan invest with their focus on existing and future requirements. This upgrade to the Citizen M32 adopts newly designed covers to provide improved access, as well as a new HMI operating panel for the new NC unit, the touch panel provides improved operation and usability. The turret tooling has been completely redesigned with a conversion to single-drive for rotary tools and increasing the power of rotary tools motor. It’s ideally suited for machining of quality precision component parts like bushings for our Aerospace customers

OGP Spark Vision System:

The OGP Spark Vision System is an addition to Bellurgan’s impressive catalog of precision measuring equipment. This model has measuring ranges of 300mm X 300mm X 150mm on the X,Y and Z stages. Its other features include configurable objective lenses for 1.0X to 10X magnification range. Depth and surface profile measurements are quality checked with the system’s through-the -lens laser (TTL)

Brother Speedio R650:

Bellurgan have the capacity for bigger component parts and multi-face machining with this investment. Spindle speeds can be 10,000 rpm on high torque or 16,000 rpm for aluminium machining. Setup times are kept to a minimum as the Brother Speedio can tool change at .9 seconds and pallet change at 3.4 seconds. Both can be executed at the same time. In-cabin component parts for our Aerospace customers are manufactured on this machine.

Mitutoyo CMM:

Bellurgan invested in a third Mitutoyo CMM for their Quality lab. In Mitutoyo, Bellurgan have a partner who set the highest standards for quality, performance and progress. Perfectly matched to the CRYSTA-PLUS C, the REPRO-FIX clamping system is easily disassembled completely - or in modules, to be assembled again quickly. CRYSTA-APEX C comes with the high-end MCOSMOS software package. We have invested for the future and can react confidently in providing high quality, high volume components for all our customers.

2 X Citizen Miyanos:

Bellurgan maintain their continuous improvement program by investing in innovative machinery. The BNA 42GTY is configured with two spindles, one turret, 2X Y axis, gang tools and X3 axis to back spindle. The BNA-42GTY can mount up to 45 tools. The machine has 3 tool simultaneous cutting and a versatile tool layout. LFV (low-frequency vibration cutting) is a technology for performing machining while vibrating the X and Z servo axes in the cutting direction in synchrony with the rotation of the spindle. It reduces various problems caused by chips entangling with the product or tool. Component parts for our Medical customers are machined on the Citizens.
