| | | | | | | | Medical - Case Study | | | | The Customer: | | The customer is a global player in the manufacture of respirators. |
| | | | | | | The Product: | | Clamp Collar |
|
| | | | | | | The Challenge: | | The customer was experiencing a significant amount of fallout during the assembly process, as the clamp design in use at the time distributed uneven clamping force when assembled. |
| | This design caused two problems: |
| | Because of the uneven force of the clamping, the customer had difficulty calibrating the device. |
| | Damage to other components within the assembly was increasing the cost of scrap. |
| | As part of our continuous improvement programme, Bellurgan's challenge was to explore where we could effect change that would allow the clamp to apply pressure evenly, without damaging related components within the assembly. |
|
| | | | | | | The Result: | | Following discussions with the customer's engineers, the team in Bellurgan successfully redesigned the clamp. Tests show that the clamp now functions consistently and damage to other components during assembly is eliminated. |
| | As part of our continuous improvement programme, Bellurgan took the initiative to help the customer do some problem solving. In doing so, the customer can now measure the outcome: |
| | Reduced downtime |
| | Reduced scrap levels |
| | Less admin time chasing replacements and dealing with MRB, etc. |
| | Overall, costs are down and productivity is up. |
|
